Liverpool managed to bounce back from their defeat against Manchester United in remarkable fashion. Bournemouth were thrashed 9-0 at Anfield, the joint-highest margin of victory in the Premier League.
Southampton and Ipswich Town have suffered defeat by the same scoreline in recent years, falling prey to Leicester City and Manchester United. And Liverpool have now matched their rivals for the most dominant performance in the history of the league.
Liverpool thrash Bournemouth 9-0
The Cherries were never in it from the beginning, and fell behind following a goal from Luis Diaz. The Colombian went on to get a double in the game, while Roberto Firmino was able to get a hat-trick of assists, and a brace as well. The Brazilian had not scored at Anfield since December 2020, but was able to end that drought against Bournemouth.
Harvey Elliot scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool early on, while Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also got themselves onto the scoresheet.
An own goal from Chris Mepham put the visitors 6-0 behind only a minute after half time, but things were not done there. New signing Fabio Carvalho also opened his account for the Merseyside club, netting in the 80th minute.
Liverpool now have a goal difference of +8, and have five points from their first four games. Bournemouth, on the other hand, are making an early case of being relegation candidates.
