Liverpool defeated Manchester United 4-0 at Anfield following an extremely one-sided performance from the new leaders of the Premier League. Mohamed Salah scored a brace, following his hat-trick at Old Trafford, to take his tally against United to five this season.

The rest of the front three, consisting of Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz, also scored, piling the misery onto the visitors. The first half saw Liverpool make it look like child’s play to break through the defense. It only took five minutes for Luis Diaz to score the opener, and for the demolition of Manchester United to begin.

The crowd at Anfield put aside the hostilities in the seventh minute and put up a round of applause, signing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ for Cristiano Ronaldo following the tragic passing of his newborn son. The Portugal international was not in the squad owing to the deep personal loss, and his absence was surely felt on the pitch.

Thiago was the spark of the night for Liverpool, conducting the game from midfield. After a difficult adaptation period during his initial months with Liverpool, the former Bayern Munich star has finally found his rhythm.

His key passes throughout the game helped destroy Manchester United’s defenses, and makes Liverpool look like a much more threatening side owing to his unparalleled creativity.

With the win at Anfield, the Reds have a two-point lead over Manchester City, who will need to win their game against Brighton to reclaim the top spot in the table.
