Jurgen Klopp’s brand of heavy metal football was on display throughout the game, especially in the first half. The Merseysiders pressed hard and were very sharp in their passing. They should have equalised from open play early, but Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliot could not test Edouard Mendy.
At the stroke of half-time, following a goal-line scramble, Reece James was sent off after the ball hit his thigh, and subsequently his hand.
