Chelsea held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield despite being a man down the entire second half. The two teams come off with a point each and no longer have a perfect record. However, they are still unbeaten.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, following a set-piece situation. The German was unmarked and scored a looping header from the near post that Alisson had little chance of stopping.

Jurgen Klopp’s brand of heavy metal football was on display throughout the game, especially in the first half. The Merseysiders pressed hard and were very sharp in their passing. They should have equalised from open play early, but Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliot could not test Edouard Mendy.

At the stroke of half-time, following a goal-line scramble, Reece James was sent off after the ball hit his thigh, and subsequently his hand. The event was checked by Anthony Taylor on the pitchside monitor, and not only did he award Liverpool a penalty, but the referee also sent James off in a rather harsh decision.

Mo Salah made no mistake from the spot as he levelled things up for his team, sending Mendy the wrong way. Things got heated between the two players right before half-time, and Rudiger and Mendy were booked for their part in the tumult.

The second half saw Chelsea sub off Kai Havertz and Kante for Thiago Silva and Mateo Kovacic. The Blues defended extremely well, and Edouard Mendy also put in a remarkable shift, blocking several threatening long-range shots from the Liverpool players.
