## A Wrap Ahead of Schedule

Netflix renewed the show for a second season back in March, months before its July 9 premiere. Filming was originally expected to run from June through November, which means the production appears to have finished a few weeks early. Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine praised her crew and partners, saying the cast additions made this season in Walnut Grove feel truly magical.

## The Story: Settling Near Walnut Grove

Season 2 adapts the next book in [Laura Ingalls Wilder](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Ingalls_Wilder)‘s series, *On the Banks of Plum Creek*, in which the Ingalls family settles near Walnut Grove, Minnesota. For fans of the classic stories, this is where the community really takes shape, so a bigger supporting cast makes sense.

## Who Returns and Who’s New?

Most of the season 1 core cast returns: Alice Halsey as Laura, Luke Bracey as Charles, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline, Skywalker Hughes as Mary and Warren Christie as John Edwards. Netflix had already announced three major additions. Willa Dunn plays the iconic Nellie Oleson, Charlotte Sullivan plays her mother Margaret Oleson, and Rachelle Lefevre plays schoolteacher Eva Beadle.

Ten more actors join in recurring or guest roles. They include David Wronko as Thomas Perry, the clever son of the town’s wealthiest family, and Erik Athavale as the progressive Reverend Alden. Elyse Levesque plays Emma Perry, who secretly runs her husband’s business, while Graham Harvey plays gentle farm boy Johnny Johnson. Jacinta Forest Lewitski plays farm manager Hannah Walker, and Lyla Porter-Follows plays the outspoken widow Mrs. Lena Nelson. Martin Roach plays blacksmith Simon Hughes, Paul Greene plays grain buyer and banker Luther Perry, and Ryan Northcott plays storekeeper William Oleson. Scott Porter appears as Charles’s older brother, Peter Ingalls.

Fans of the 1974 NBC series will spot some familiar names, although the reboot gives the Oleson patriarch a fresh first name.

## Who’s Directing?

Eight directors are confirmed: Kat Candler, Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Julie Anne Robinson, Liza Johnson, Sarah Boyd, Ellen Kuras, Sydney Freeland and Pascal Verschooris. Verschooris is also an executive producer, along with Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly and Dana Fox.

## When Will Season 2 Arrive?

Netflix hasn’t set a date. Season 1 arrived roughly nine months after its production wrapped, so a summer 2027 release, most likely in July or August, looks like the best bet. That’s an estimate, not an announcement.
