Manchester United will be without Lisandro Martinez for the remainder of the season, a club statement has confirmed. The defender suffered a fractured metatarsal bone in his foot during the 2-2 draw against Sevilla in their Europa League quarter final tie.
The Argentine will miss the rest of the season, but will recover in time for the start of the new one. Martinez has been the most reliable defensive option for Erik Ten Hag this season through his aggressive style of play, which has been missing for a long time.
Lisandro Martinez to miss the rest of the season with foot injury
Manchester United will be without Raphael Varane for the next few weeks as well. The Frenchman was substituted at half time during their game against Sevilla, and will miss the next few games. As a result, he will be unavailable for the return leg in Spain.
With both of their first-choice centre-backs ruled out for an important game, United find themselves in a very difficult situation heading into next week. Lisandro Martinez’s absence could be a huge blow and puts them at further risk of being eliminated from the tie in spite of being one of the favourites.
United will also be without Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, two of their most important attacking options. And they also have the FA Cup semifinal against Brighton to worry about.
