Manchester United officials are in Amsterdam to complete the deal for Lisandro Martinez this summer. The Argentinian has agreed to a five-year deal with the Premier League side, and all that remains now is for the two clubs to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
The previous offer for the centre-back was around €40 million, but Ajax rejected that bid since they wanted more. A final agreement is reportedly close, and the two clubs could finalise the deal in the coming days when they sit down to meet.
Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United could be finalised soon
The player is keen to reunite with Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford, and would be the first Ajax player to follow his former manager to England. Arsenal are also interested in signing the defender, but have been eclipsed by United.
The 24-year-old has informed Ajax of his desire to play in the Premier League next season. And as a result, the Dutch champions are now open to selling him to Manchester United next season. The final offer is expected to be upwards of €50 million for the player.
Lisandro Martinez would be the first centre-back signing of the summer for the club. They have already agreed deals for Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen, but have not signed any central defenders yet. They are also in the market for Antony from Ajax, and are trying to agree a fee for the Brazilian as well.
