Lionel Scaloni will be continuing with the Argentina national team, having renewed his contract until 2026. He will be the man in charge to lead the team into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Considering he has four more years on his contract, he could be the man in charge during the next World Cup as well. The decision has been announced on the back of Argentina’s 3-0 win against Jamaica.
Lionel Scaloni renews contract with Argentina national team
AFA president Chiqui Tapia confirmed this on his social media: “I am proud to tell you that we have agreed Lionel Scaloni’s continuity as Argentina coach until the 2026 World Cup. We remain committed to the comprehensive national team project.”
“I’m excited and grateful,” Scaloni said about Tapia’s announcement.
“I want to continue, who wouldn’t want to do it with the Argentine national team?
“I have the best relationship with the president, we met today, everything is on track.”
The 2026 World Cup will be held in Canada, the USA and Mexico, and it remains to be seen whether Lionel Scaloni will be in charge that long. He has already spent four years with the team, and could make it double that number in a few years.
