Lionel Messi has been suspended by Paris Saint-Germain for two weeks, due to his trip to Saudi Arabia without asking for permission. The forward missed training with the team, and is now waiting to receive official communication regarding the matter.
It is likely that the suspension will involve Messi being sidelined from participating in matches as well as group training.
Lionel Messi suspended by PSG over Saudi Arabia trip
PSG manager Christophe Galtier reportedly told his players that they could have Monday and Tuesday off if they won or drew against Lorient. But, the team ended up slumping to a shock defeat, meaning the players would be called in for training on Monday.
Messi had asked about the trip before the game, but since they lost, he was expected to come and train with the others. Instead, he flew to Saudi Arabia to honour his deal with them as their ambassador.
The situation has reportedly created tension within the dressing room as other players are quite unhappy with the incident. And it further complicates the chances of him renewing his contract with PSG, which expires at the end of the season.
The likelihood of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona has also started diminishing due to their dire financial status. And if a renewal with PSG is not possible, we could see the Argentine move to Saudi Arabia to sign for Al Hilal, who have made an offer for his services already.
