Lionel Messi has set a new landmark in the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the best of this generation. It has become a habit to see them break records. They are the pioneers of world football right now.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona in their Group F encounter with Slavia Prague on Wednesday, which they eventually won 2-1. It was a simple finish for the 32-year-old, who tucked home the first time after exchanging passes with Arthur to continue his stellar return to action following his comeback from injury troubles which blighted the start of the season.
Messi has now become the first player in Champions League history to score in 15 successive Champions League campaigns.
Along with this, Messi has also matched Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid great Raul in having netted against 33 different opponents in Europe’s premier club competition.
Barcelona coach Valverde praised Messi. He told reporters post-match: “He’s the player who can decide any game. Every day we see him he’s even better. One more record for the incredible Leo. They are easy to say, it seems natural, but it is very difficult to achieve.”
Messi’s Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets said: “He’s had a tough start to the season because of injuries. He’s fundamental to the way we play and a lot goes through him. He’s getting his rhythm back but it won’t take him long because he’s the best in the world.”
