Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties as manager of Paris Saint-Germain on Christmas eve. While the club have not officially confirmed a replacement for the post of the manager, former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is being heavily linked with securing the job.
Pochettino has been out of a job for a little over a year now and is heralded by the footballing world as one of the best managers in the world. Arguably the highlight of the Argentine’s tenure at Spurs was their success in the 18/19 season of the Champions League, setting up an all-English final with Liverpool, only to fall short of the mark.Â
With the 48-year-old on the verge of taking charge of one of the most financially powerful clubs in Europe, Le Parisien reports that Pochettino will be looking to unite with fellow Argentinian Lionel Messi next summer when the player’s contract with Barcelona expires.Â
Neymar had previously hinted at reuniting with Messi in 2021 and owing to the Blaugrana’s current financial situation, it is not possible for them to splash out an unbelievable amount of money on their former player. Hence, with Messi out of a contract and available for free, it is only fitting that the reunion should take place in Paris.Â
Pochettino is expected to bring stability and a clear sense of direction to the reigning French Champions, and the addition of Lionel Messi to the team will surely make the provisional front three of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi unstoppable.
With the recent chaos at Barcelona and Messi’s decision to stay at the club still on the fence, it seems likely that the Argentinian will switch clubs for the first time in his professional career. What truly happens is something that remains to be seen in this dynamic modern transfer window.
