Lionel Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, has reportedly met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta. Among the topics discussed between the two were that of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner returning to Camp Nou at the end of the season.
Earlier, Jorge Messi had stated that there was no offer on the table from Barcelona. Moreover, he almost completely ruled out the possibility of a return to Camp Nou for his son. The comments from Matias Messi have also added more fuel to the speculation about whether their former talisman will indeed return to the club where he spent most of his career.
Lionel Messi Barcelona return: Talks held with Joan Laporta
As things stand, there is a verbal agreement between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain to continue beyond the season. An initial round of talks have been held between the two parties, but there is currently no final agreement.
PSG are determined to keep hold of the World Cup winning captain, and are prepared to offer him a better financial offer for the same.
Barcelona themselves are in a difficult situation in terms of finances. They will have to let go of some players before registering new ones. Moreover, Joan Laporta’s strained relationship with Lionel Messi could also prove to be a barrier to his return.
The 35-year-old is having a very successful season, scoring 15 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions. And we will have to wait just a few more months to learn about his future.
