Some movies never really leave pop culture, they just wait for the right moment to return. That’s exactly what’s happening with **Life Is A Long Quiet River** (*La Vie Est Un Long Fleuve Tranquille*), Étienne Chatilliez’s beloved 1988 satire, which is now being reimagined as a brand-new Netflix series — and the cast reveal has fans buzzing.

## What’s Confirmed So Far on Life Is A Long Quiet River?

| Detail | Information |
| --- | --- |
| Original Film | 1988, directed by Étienne Chatilliez |
| New Format | Netflix series adaptation |
| Director | Clovis Cornillac |
| Lead Cast | Alban Ivanov, Ludivine Sagnier, Doria Tillier, Xavier Lacaille |
| Shoot Location | Arcachon, Southwest France |
| Filming Window | October–December 2026 |
| Netflix Confirmation | Not yet official |

The news broke through interviews with actor Alban Ivanov, who’s reprising the role of Father Groseille from the original film. He’ll star opposite *Lupin* actress Ludivine Sagnier, with Doria Tillier and Xavier Lacaille playing the Le Quesnoy family — the household at the center of the story’s famous baby-swap twist.

## Why This Adaptation Stands Out

Netflix’s French slate usually leans on original comedies rather than remakes — think Dany Boon’s upcoming series debut. A revival of a cult classic that sold 4 million tickets and launched the acting career of a 12-year-old Benoît Magimel marks a real shift in strategy, betting nostalgia can travel as well as fresh IP.

Filming swaps the film’s original Northern France setting for the coastal charm of Arcachon, hinting the new version won’t be a scene-for-scene retread. With Cornillac — known internationally for playing [Astérix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ast%C3%A9rix) on screen — directing, expect a comedic sensibility rooted in French pop culture but shaped for modern streaming audiences.
