The LG Gram laptop series has a well-deserved reputation for portability. These are lightweight laptops, as the name implies, and LG has now added something altogether new to the range – a matching portable display. The LG Gram +view 16MQ70 is a 16-inch variant with a USB-C-powered IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
USB-C portable monitors are most typically found in 15.6-inch FHD models. However, like with the current crop of laptops in 2022, the 16-inch screen size, as well as greater pixels and squarer screen ratios, are gaining appeal. With its 16-inch WQXGA screen and 16:10 aspect ratio, the new LG Gram +view 16MQ70 incorporates all of these trends. When compared to a 16:9 ratio screen, which was designed for media consumption, the extra vertical resolution can significantly aid with work. The LG Gram 16 (2022) laptop appears to employ the same screen standard as this portable monitor, making it a perfect match in terms of colour, functionality, and aesthetics.
The LG Gram +view 16MQ70’s physical characteristics are crucial as a portable monitor
The dimensions of this item are 360 x 245.5 x 8.3mm (so is almost exactly a third of an inch thick). This gadget weighs 670g (1.48 pounds) without the Folio Cover and 990g (2.18 pounds) with it. If you don’t have the cover/stand, you’ll have to support up the display with something like a generic iPad stand or any other substantial object you have on your desk or table.
Before we get into the specifications, we’d want to point out something that gamers might consider a flaw. The LG Gram +view 16MQ70 has a 60Hz refresh rate and a 30ms reaction time, which is pretty slow.
The new LG Gram +view 16MQ70 is shown in both vertical and horizontal orientations with a laptop in dual-screen and screen sharing modes in promotional photos. There are two USB Type-C (DP Alt Mode) ports, as shown in the table, and a compatible cable is included in the package. On either side of the monitor is a port (when stood horizontally). The USB-C cable provides both video and power (8W), and LG’s specifications make no mention of a built-in battery, so don’t expect one. The LG Gram +view 16MQ70, according to LG, covers 99 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.
From mid-April, the LG Gram +view 16MQ70 will be available in Japan for roughly 45,000 Yen. The product has a $349 MSRP on LG’s official site in the United States. There are no retail connections in the US at the time of writing, but given the publication of the official product sites, it’s realistic to predict a comparable availability timetable.
