Bayer Leverkusen’s season has been nothing short of incredible, with the team earning their first Bundesliga title in their history under the Spaniard. They are still unbeaten in all competitions, with their streak currently at 43 games. The team won the league title with five games to spare, and could continue their unbeaten run to achieve another historic feat.
There was a lot of speculation over the future of Xabi Alonso, with the former midfielder being linked with a return to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement. However, he has turned down all approaches in favour of a stay at Leverkusen next season. But that doesn’t rule out an eventual move away to a bigger challenge.

“I have no doubts. One day, Xabi Alonso will be Real Madrid manager. No doubts at all, zero doubts!”
“The only doubt is when he will sign for Real Madrid”.
“But it will happen, trust me. I am sure”, Fernando Carro said recently.
As a former Madridista himself, it was always likely that Xabi Alonso would return to Real Madrid as their manager. The Spaniard played for them for five years between 2009 and 2014, before eventually moving on to Bayern Munich.
After earning more experience at Leverkusen, perhaps he could replace Carlo Ancelotti when the Italian steps down at the end of his contract in 2026.
