This summer a star-studded list of world-class footballers are set to become free agents. With names like Lionel Messi, Juan Mata, Sergio Ramos, and G. Donnarumma on the cards, we couldn’t resist but put together a team of the best players available for free.
G. Donnarumma (GK)
The former Milan keeper’s medical is already done with PSG as per several reports. But there has been no announcement from the French capital club. This means the Italian is still a free agent.
Jerome Boateng (RB)
Boateng’s stellar run at Bayern Munich ended last season. His years at the German club were trophy-laden and now that he’s a free agent, he might have many suitors. There have also been rumors that he might return home to Hertha BSC. Although reports say that the German is interested to have another go at Premier League.
Sergio Ramos (CB)
The man. The legend. It will be really difficult to see Ramos play in a non-Madrid shirt. But as difficult as it will be to digest his 16-year marriage at Real Madrid has ended. Currently, both Manchester clubs and PSG are interested in giving Ramos one last chance at top-flight football.
David Luiz (CB)
Luiz has had a rather chaotic spell at Emirates. Moving to Arsenal from Chelsea two seasons back, he has just been a shadow of himself. There are reports that Luiz might move to US to play in MLS.
Ryan Bertrand (LB)
The Champions League winner at Chelsea’s 2012 campaign is a much-experienced defender now. He might help Premier League clubs’ homegrown quotas. Bertrand could actually be a steal deal this summer.
John Lundstram (CM)
Lundstram had a great first season at Sheffield United back in 2017. Since then his stature at Bramall Lane has fallen but he might just have a little more in him. At 27, he would be a great option to look out for.
Jack Wilshere (CM)
The former Arsenal man has been released from Bournemouth. The midfielder’s time at the south was a frustrating one burdened with injuries. He is 29 and might seek a return to the Emirates looking at Luiz’s departure. His future is uncertain as of now.
Juan Mata (CAM)
Mata’s Manchester United contract is almost officially expired and there has been no news about his future. He no doubt wants to stay and United just might extend his deal till 2022.
Lionel Messi (RWF)
There are reports of Barcelona management and Messi’s management have an agreement with the club legend to sign a contract till 2023. With Joan Laporta at the lead, the Blaugrana side would not want to lose the best player to have played the sport. Technically, Lionel Messi isn’t currently a Barça player and thus a free agent.
Franck Ribery (LWF)
The former Bayern star is still playing at 38 but is set to leave Fiorentina after just 2 seasons. In his 51 games, he was used mainly as a striker but with poor goals return. Reportedly, he wanted to stay at Fiorentina but the club didn’t offer him a new deal. The Frenchman’s wage demands are very reasonable and he might find a suitor.
Joshua King (ST)
Joshua King’s top-flight career has taken a huge hit in recent years. His game time at Everton was almost negligible. He wants to prove himself again and as reports suggest, Aston Villa, West Ham and Norwich might be considering the Norwegian striker.
Other Free Agents
Other highly rated Free Agents of this summer include Rafael BorrĂ©, Robin Quaison, Elseid Hysaj, Diego Costa, and Moussa Marega. All these players have been really good in the past seasons but where age looms on some, some are just in the process of choosing where their future lies. There is surely a lot of firepowers available for free and teams in need will be salivating on the fact. Let’s hope to see these players find a new home soon!
