Following their relegation from the Premier League, Leicester is considering bringing in Steven Gerrard as the manager to start the rebuilding process.

Leicester to replace Dean Smith with Steven Gerrard as the manager

Aston Villa sacked the former Liverpool and England captain last October, within less than a year of him being in the post, as the club struggled in the lower sections of the table.

A bad start to the 2022-23 campaign implored club bosses to replace him with Unai Emery, who helped Villa capture a place in next season’s Europa Conference League.

In 2021, he guided Rangers to their first-ever Scottish League Title since 2011, concluding Celtic’s bid to get 10 in a row and did a massive job initially at Villa, helping them to a comfortable mid-table finish. This has taken him in the run to assist Leicester back to the top.

Dean Smith came into the picture following the sacked Brendan Rodgers in April. But he failed to take the team back to the top flight survival.

Smith had discussions with Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Ruskin last week. Leicester have also thought of Scott Parker, who helped Fulham and Bournemouth to promotion. Former Juventus midfielder Enzo Maresca is at present a part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

Reports suggest Gerrard has also had a discussion with ends ever since the campaign has concluded. Similar to Leicester, Leeds is also up for a new manager following Allardyce’s departure.

Who is the transfer agent?

Right now, Tom Cairney is one of Leicester’s early transfer targets. On his contract with Fulham, he has a year left and has been excellent in the championship.
