Leicester City planning surprise move for Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho could be on his way back to England this summer to reunite with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City. The Barcelona player has failed to live up to his €100 million + price tag, and hasn’t featured for the Blaugrana in 2021.

Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian, who is not a part of Ronald Koeman’s plans for the future. According to reports, Leicester could sign Coutinho for as low as £20 million this summer. Moreover, they can also offer him European football in the form of the Europa League which other interested clubs such as Arsenal and Everton cannot.

Coutinho is one of the 18 players put on the transfer list by President Joan Laporta. He earns a hefty sum each week, and due to Barcelona’s difficult financial condition, getting his wages off the books will open up room for new signings and other avenues as well, should a majority of the other 17 names follow.

The Brazilian’s time at Camp Nou has been plagued by injuries. The highlight of his career over the past few years was winning the treble with Bayern Munich where he was on loan, and scoring two goals in their 8-2 demolition of Barcelona on their way to the Champions League title.

The attacking midfielder was at the peak of his abilities at Liverpool, and flourished under Brendan Rodgers too. A reunion could potentially salvage his career since he is 29 years old right now, and is expected to be at the peak of his physical abilities.
