Leicester City have officially confirmed the signing of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare for an ‘undisclosed fee’ estimated to be around £15 million. The agreement between the two parties has been in place for quite some time, and now the deal has been confirmed by the club themselves.
Here is what the player had to say about his transfer from the French champions to Leicester:
“I’m really proud to come to the Premier League and a big club like Leicester. It’s going to really help me to develop my game and progress as a player, so I feel it is the right step for me.
“Leicester is a very ambitious club. When they spoke to me about their plans and what they wanted from me, I knew straight away I wanted to come. I really am so proud and honoured to be here and I will give my all for the team and club to make everyone happy.”
Soumare plays as a defensive midfielder and will be expected to operate alongside Youri Tielemans in the heart of the park. He has penned a five-year contract with the Foxes until 2026.
Graduating through the PSG academy, the player moved to Lille in search of first team football and helped them to their first league title in ten years this past season. His arrival will surely bring a lot of stability to the defensive half of the team. After Patson Daka and Soumare, Leicester are expected to confirm the signing of Ryan Bertrand.
