Chelsea have been handed their first loss of the season, with Leeds United winning against the Blues 3-0 at Elland Road. Under Jesse Marsch this season, the team has picked up two wins and a draw and is yet to be defeated.
It was a poor display from the visitors, with Leeds showing a lot of aggressiveness and energy to force errors from them. Missed chances proved to be the deciding factor for Thomas Tuchel’s side once again – with their misfiring forwards failing to take their chances.
Leeds beat Chelsea 3-0 for the first time in 20 years
Edouard Mendy made an absolute mess of a clearance to gift Brenden Aaronson his first Premier League goal. Shortly after, Rodrigo would score from a set piece situation to double their lead.
Chelsea’s midfield pivot of Jorginho and Connor Gallagher was outrun by the opposition, who were very effective with their pressing. Gallagher’s first start for Chelsea showed small glimpses of his quality from his time at Crystal Palace, but a lot of work is yet to be done for him to be a regular in the team.
Jack Harrison scored a third goal late in the game to end all hopes of a comeback from the opposition. And in the 84th minute, Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for a second yellow card which left Chelsea defending the final minutes with ten men.
