Manchester United picked up a 4-2 win against rivals Leeds United at Elland Road to cement their top-four position for the time being. Here are the three key talking points from the game.Â
Just the way it should be
Given the history between the two clubs, it was always going to be a tense encounter. And the game lived up to the hype in every capacity. Things were amplified by torrential rainfall in Yorkshire that lasted throughout the game and heavily influenced matters on the pitch.
We also had a number of heated exchanges between players on the pitch, and a number of bookings as well. Anthony Elanga became the subject of fan interaction later in the game after he was hit by an object from the stands.Â
54 seconds to draw level
Leeds United came out of the tunnel as a different team in the second half altogether. The Yorkshire club pulled one back after Rodrigo’s cross ended up in the back of the net – a freak goal to the fullest. And only 54 seconds later, things were level again as Raphinha tapped in a cross from Daniel James.
Manchester United outscore their rivals
Substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga bagged in the third and fourth goals for Manchester United, after Raphinha scored the equaliser. The Red Devils won the game comfortably in the end, despite a strong fight from Leeds in the early stages of the second half. The three points are all that matter after all, as their quest for Champions League football next season continues.
