# layoffs trends on Twitter as this time Microsoft lays off 10,000 employees

Well, no one likes to start a new year by getting laid off, however, major tech giants like Twitter, Meta, HP, Amazon, and many more companies have been firing their employees. To make matters worse the software conglomerate [Microsoft](https://www.microsoft.com/en-in)is also laying off employees and that news has made [Twitter](https://technosports.co.in/?s=twitter&post_type=post)go crazy.

A lot of people are commenting on their views, making memes and also sharing about ones who have been sacked recently with #layoffs. Although layoffs have been going since 2022 the rate has suddenly been on a spike since the start of 2023 and reportedly a lot of experienced people are being sent off by their companies, especially by the giant tech companies.

However, Microsoft’s mass layoff (around 5% of the workforce) comes as a reason for the cost of the acquisition of ChatGPT, yes the AI tool that has been always in the headlines of late will be acquired by Microsoft for a huge $10 billion.
