Lava is back in the budget ring, barely weeks after its Virat V1 series, with a new entry-level phone aimed squarely at first-time smartphone buyers. The Smart 4 checks the usual budget boxes — big screen, big battery, low price — but one spec choice might give buyers real pause.

## The Catch: That Display Resolution

Here’s where the Smart 4 stumbles a bit. Lava’s press materials list the display resolution simply as “qHD,” which works out to roughly 500p — noticeably below even the 720p panels found on most budget rivals. In a world where nearly everything is consumed in HD or higher on YouTube, Instagram, and OTT apps, that’s a real step down in everyday clarity, even accounting for the phone’s low price.

Rivals like the itel Zeno 100 Pro (₹8,599) and Ai+ Pulse 2 (₹9,199) both offer a minimum of 720p resolution at similar or only slightly higher prices, which makes the Smart 4’s screen choice feel like an odd corner to cut.

## Who Is This Phone Actually For?

Despite the display compromise, the Smart 4 isn’t without merit. The 5,000mAh battery, Android 16 Go’s lighter footprint, and MIL-STD-810H shock resistance make it a genuinely practical option for buyers upgrading from a feature phone or picking up a reliable secondary device for calls and messaging. It’s simply not built for buyers who care about media consumption or camera quality — and Lava seems to know that. ## Bottom Line

The Lava Smart 4 nails the basics — battery life, durability, a big screen — for a genuinely low ₹8,499 price tag. But the sub-720p display resolution is a real trade-off worth knowing about before you buy, especially with similarly priced rivals offering sharper screens. If display clarity matters to you at all, it’s worth checking real-world reviews first.
