We already know that Intel’s Alder Lake-S desktop CPUs are gearing to offers a huge increase in performance when compared to the current existing 14nm processors. However, they will do so while consuming lots of power while running hot.
Recently WolStame over at Weibo has done the testing of Intel’s Alder Lake-S Desktop CPU. The same person is Lenovo’s China Gaming Desktop & Product Planning manager and he wrote in his post that it’s not only the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card that would need 350W to run at its fullest potential.
The test was carried with AIDA64 and the respective power/temperature figures were reported in HWiNFO. The AIDA64 stress test is very brutal and the standard workload is nothing in comparison to the stress test.
According to reports, the chip could have been the flagship which is the Intel Core i9-12900K. Windows 11 task manager shows 12 thread boxes, and the Alder Lake CPU is shown running with an average temperature of 86C and peaked at 93C.
While coming to the power consumption the Alder Lake chip averaged around 250W power consumption with a peak of 255W and if the tests and previous leaks are to be believed then the demand for the power from Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake Desktop CPUs will increase by 50-100W from its 11th Generation Rocket Lake chips.
