Spain are at risk of a £30,000 fine from the German government if they play Lamine Yamal in their final group stage game against Albania at Euro 2024.

The laws state that any athlete under 18 cannot work past 23:00, and since the game starts at 21:00, a lengthy period of injury time could push the RFEF towards a hefty payout.

Playing Lamine Yamal against Albania could mean £30,000 fine for Spain

Even if the Barcelona youngster is on the bench, it would technically count as work as he is with the team. Therefore, Luis de la Fuente would have to exclude him from the squad completely to avoid paying the fine.

But amidst reports that the authorities are relaxed about the issue and are not willing to impose the fine, Spain could get away with a few minutes of over time if Yamal indeed plays.

The 16-year-old has started both of Spain’s games against Croatia and Italy at Euro 2024, providing one assist so far. His performances have been very positive, hinting at a bright future ahead, and with Spain already through to the Round of 16, it’ll be interesting to see if he continues to make it to the starting line-up when La Roja take on Albania in their final group stage game.

How many goals has Yamal scored this season?

5 goals and 5 assists in 37 LaLiga games
