Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to play for Spain at the age of 16 years and 57 days, and also became their youngest ever goalscorer in the 7-1 win against Georgia in the Euro qualifiers.Â
The previous record for the youngest Spain debutant was held by his Barcelona teammate Gavi. The forward is also the youngest player to ever feature for Barca in a league game at the age of 15, as well as the youngest to ever start a game at the age of 16, which was previously held by Gavi. And now, Yamal has taken away both records from his fellow La Masia graduate.Â

“I am really happy to make my debut and to score,” he told Teledeportes. “I am living a dream. I have to thank my teammates and the coach for the confidence placed in me, as well as everyone else who has helped me along the way,” Lamine Yamal said after the game.
Spain are the favourites to top their group after their win over Georgia. They have played two games less than the rest due to their involvement in the Nations League. Once they have played the two remaining games, they will be expected to finish atop the group.
Xavi and Luis de la Fuente are both very impressed by the youngster. Xavi is expected to hand him regular playing opportunities, especially after his man of the match display against Villarreal.
