After 2 months of suspension, there is good news for the LaLiga fans around the globe. The league has been halted since March due to the Coronavirus pandemic. But things are better now.

The Spanish government has given the green light to LaLiga to resume its 2019-20 season. LaLiga is all set to become the second major football league after Bundesliga to resume the season. The second division of Spanish football will also resume.

Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez said: “Spain has done what it should and now new horizons are opening for everyone. The time has come to bring back many day-to-day activities.”

“From 8 June, La Liga will be back. Spanish football has a huge following but it will not be the only recreational activity that will return.”

LaLiga president Tebas wrote on Twitter: “We are very pleased with the decision, it’s the result of great work by clubs, players, coaches… CSD [National Sports Council], agents, etc.”

“But it’s very important to follow the health regulations and to respect the evolution of the pandemic, we can’t lower our guard.”

The LaLiga matches will be held behind closed doors just like how the Bundesliga matches are being held now. The matches will also be played throughout the week, unlike only on weekends previously.

Tebas earlier said: “That’s what I hope [to stage matches every day once play resumes]. We shouldn’t have any problems playing on Mondays across the eleven rounds of matches we have left to play.”

“I hope for some sense from the Spanish Football Federation on this because it’s very important for us to be able to give both our national and international broadcasters, and fans across the world, football on as many days as possible to ensure as little disruption as possible.”

UEFA has also voiced their desire for the football leagues to end in July or early August followed by the Champions League final. Bundesliga is also hosting its matches almost every day. LaLiga is hoping to follow its footsteps as well to finish off this season as quickly as possible and then be ready for the next season.

There are 11 rounds of matches still left to play this season for the LaLiga teams. Currently, Barcelona are two points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table but the title race this season is expected to go down the wire.
