Done deal: Former La Liga winger Edgar Mendez joins Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC are set to sign Edgar Mendez from Mexican club Necaxa to bolster their attack and add more experience to their squad. The 34-year-old primarily plays as a right winger, but can play on either flank as a right-footed player.

This past season, the winger scored six goals and provided two assists in 36 games across all competitions.

Edgar Mendez to sign for Bengaluru FC in huge deal

Mendez has played for Necaxa since 2022, but is now set to try a new challenge, which will be his first spell in Asia. The veteran has previously featured for Alaves, Granada and Almeria in the Spanish top flight, with experience at Real Madrid and Real Betis’ academies.

The deal has been finalised between the two parties, and will be officially announced once the formalities have been completed.

Edgar Mendez joins Ajay Chhetri, Alberto Noguera, Rahul Bheke, Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Mohammed Salah as the new players for the Blues in the new season. While several foreigners have struggled to adapt in India, it’ll be interesting to see whether Mendez can cope with his new surroundings.

Will Sunil Chhetri play for BFC this season?

Contract extension yet to be announced
