The most expensive signing for La Liga in the January transfer window was Ferran Torres to Barcelona. The Spaniard returned to La Liga from Manchester City in a €55 million deal. Barcelona also signed Adama Traore, Dani Alves and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal.

While Real Madrid did not make any signings, Atletico Madrid signed a pair of full-backs to bolster their squad. On the other hand, Giovanni Lo Celso made the move to Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur. Valencia signed Bryan Gil from Spurs, after losing Daniel Wass to Atletico.

With the departure of Lionel Messi from Barcelona, the valuation of the league had taken a hit because of his sheer star power. But now, things are slowly looking to improve for the Spanish top flight once more.
