Barcelona’s great ever player Lionel Messi left the club this summer as a free agent when both the club and the player failed to reach an agreement due to La Liga’s financial rules despite Messi willing to take a 50% pay cut. Messi has now joined his former teammate Neymar in PSG.

La Liga president Javier Tebas spoke about the exit of Lionel Messi and Barcelona’s financial situation in an interview with SPORT: “Perhaps Messi’s departure has been the most painful (compared to others leaving), because personally, I consider him the best in history. He did not deserve to leave like that, not only from Barça, nor from the league.”

When asked if Messi’s departure could have been avoided, Tebas was quite straightforward, and said, “Yes. I know for sure his departure was not for financial reasons. His exit could have been prevented.”

He continued, explaining why he thought so: “Barça agreed with CVC for a month, until Real Madrid said no. Barcelona have an inferiority complex with Florentino Perez. He has kidnapped Barça.”

“It can happen like in 2003, when Laporta charged the losses to Joan Gaspart and a group of partners took him to court. COVID has generated €200 million in losses so far,” exclaimed Tebas.

The full interview of Tebas with SPORT is set to be released tomorrow. It is bound to drop some hits on Barcelona and Real Madrid.
