After a disappointing World Cup for the Spainsh fans, there’s some good news. The domestic football of Spain resumes after the summer break. The La Liga 2018-19 season is on its way. Let’s have a detailed look at the La Liga and its new season.
La Liga Santander is the men’s top flight professional football league. This league started in 1929 and Athletic Bilbao won in the inagural year. Real Madrid have the most no of La Liga titles, 33, followed by Barcelona’s 25 no of titles.
According to UEFA’s league coefficient, La Liga has been the top league in Europe over the last five years and has led Europe for more years (13) than any other country. It has also produced the continent’s top-rated club more times (21) than any other league. More than double that of second-placed Serie A. Its clubs have won the most UEFA Champions League (18), UEFA Europa League (11), UEFA Super Cup (15), and FIFA Club World Cup (6) titles. And its players have accumulated the highest number of (FIFA) Ballon d’Or awards (19).

What are the things we should be looking forward to in this new season?
VAR will be used in La Liga for the 1st time in this season. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the madness of the transfer market will give things a fresh new look. Atletico Madrid can finally hope to break the Real Madrid-Barcelona monopoly. They kept their star players and added some quality reinforcements to their squad.
The first match between Barcelona and Real Madrid will be interesting. It will be funny to see Arturo Vidal play against his hated Madrid. Real Madrid will play without their star Ronaldo for the 1st time since 9 years. And they are obviously in transition under Julen Lopetegui. The first Clasico is on October 28 at Camp Nou.
Which team will be the surprise package?
The big surprise will be Real Betis. They finished sixth last season. But a brilliant pre-season and some excellent additions to the squad have given them a huge boost. They have recruited players very efficiently as per their needs. Their coach Setien already showed that the team can fly high and this season will confirm that.
Who will be the best signing?
Arthur Melo of Barcelona, Thomas Lemar of Atletico Madrid and Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid are going to be the best signings of this season. But among them who will flourish the most is yet to be seen.
Who will win the La Liga?
Barcelona are the defending champions of the La Liga.
As every year, there are three candidates for the title : Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Barcelona’s squad looks the strongest after Madrid lost a huge presence in Cristiano Ronaldo. Lopetegui will have to rebuild the team and the rest of the candidates. Valverde has everything in place to win LaLiga and must take advantage of the occasion. Messi will also be very hungry after a disastrous World Cup.
This year can also be Atletico Madrid’s year if they give priority to the domestic league. They have made some great signings, have a solid group ethic and depth in almost every position. The battle against Barcelona will be an exciting one for sure.
If Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale take centre stage then Real Madrid can win the title too. But Real Madrid lacks a good replacement for Ronaldo. The absense of Ronaldo in the squad showed during their UEFA Super Cup final against Atletico Madrid. Julen Lopetegui lost his 1st match as manager by 2-4.
Where can you watch the La Liga matches live?
La Liga and Facebook have announced on Tuesday that the social media platform will become the official home for all La Liga Santander matches in the Indian subcontinent. It’s a deal that will continue for three seasons starting the 2018/19 campaign that is set to kick off on August 17.
