Kurt Zouma could be dropped for West Ham United’s game against Watford after animal cruelty charges. The centre-back was filmed kicking and slapping a cat, and the footage was circulated online.

The Hammers have released a statement saying they condemn the actions of their player. “West Ham unreservedly condemn the actions of our player Kurt Zouma in the video that has circulated,” the Premier League club said.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is also looking into the matter, amidst calls for the player to be sacked. The Met Police have decided to not explore the issue either.

Kurt Zouma apologises for his actions following charges

The Frenchman has apologised for his actions, which led to an outrage from people online:

“I want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video.

“I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

The player made the move across London last summer for £30 million and picked up a knock against Kidderminster in West Ham’s FA Cup game. The player might be out for the next game, and it is yet uncertain about what kind of disciplinary actions will be taken against Zouma by the authorities.
