Some films are made for a genre. This one invents its own. **“Korean Kanakaraju,”** starring [Varun Tej](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varun_Tej), hit theaters on August 7, 2026, and Twitter’s early verdict is refreshingly mixed — which usually means an interesting watch.

## What’s the Film About?

Kanakaraju is a hot-headed young man from Rayalaseema whose life flips upside down after he gets possessed by a spirit trapped inside a Korean dragon-shaped vase. Say the word “Korea” near him, and out comes his alter ego — a katana-wielding, Korean-speaking warrior. With his best friend Satya and a translator in tow, Kanakaraju’s chaos spans both India and South Korea.

## What Twitter Is Saying

Reactions are split down the middle. One viewer called it a decent horror-comedy, praising a video-call scene in the second half and Thaman S.’s background score. Another felt the first half dragged but the second half redeemed it, largely thanks to Satya’s comic timing. A more critical fan rated it 2/5, calling the execution amateurish and the songs underwhelming. Meanwhile, a fourth reviewer landed at 2.5/5, calling it a decent one-time watch overall.
