Konrad Laimer Bayern Munich transfer now official.
After being heavily rumoured for months in end, Bayern Munich have officially confirmed the arrival of Konrad Laimer on a free transfer. The midfielder has become their first signing of the summer, and has signed a contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2027.
He decided not to renew his contract with RB Leipzig as soon as October, and has now moved to the biggest club in the country.
The 26-year-old will add a new dimension to the club’s midfield, helping them achieve an overall balance with the kind of profiles that they have. He joins the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka as the two players behind a number ten like Thomas Muller or Jamal Musiala.
Laimer has been in the Red Bull sporting project since 2015 with RB Salzburg, and has been with Leipzig since 2017. He helped the team win the DFB Pokal in successive seasons, and has now decided to try a bigger challenge with Die Roten.
The Austrian will take on his former club, Leipzig, in his first game as a Bayern player when the two teams face each other in the DFL Super Cup to start the season.
Konrad Laimer Bayern Munich transfer confirmed
“It’s a dream come true for me. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I will give everything for the club and the fans. FC Bayern always has the highest goals – just like me. I’m in the right place here. I’m only capable of giving 100 per cent, and that’s what I’ll put into every training session from day one. I can hardly wait,” the player told Bayern Munich’s official website.
He will join his former teammate Dayot Upamecano at the club, while his former captain, Marcel Sabitzer, is currently out on loan at Manchester United.
After Konrad Laimer Bayern Munich transfer: Which players will join next?
After signing Konrad Laimer, Bayern Munich are expected to unveil Raphael Guerreiro as their new signing in the coming weeks. The left-back moved on from Borussia Dortmund after his contract expired a few days ago.
He had offers from Atletico Madrid and Nice, but always had his heart set on a transfer to Bayern Munich. And now, he has agreed terms for a contract until 2026. An official announcement will confirm his arrival very soon as the deal is practically final.
Bayern are also interested in signing Declan Rice from West Ham United. But, they will face stiff competition from Arsenal who are currently leading the race to sign the player. As a result, there is a chance they could turn their attention elsewhere and sign another defensive midfielder.
The club is also keeping tabs on Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, but a deal is not advanced as of yet. They are aware that they need a new striker to cope with the loss of Robert Lewandowski last summer, and are yet to zero in on a single target.
The futures of Ryan Gravenberch and Marcel Sabitzer are uncertain for the time being, with clarity only expected when the new sporting director is appointed.
