Ajax have hired their former striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar as part of their technical staff, following the departure of Marc Overmars. He has signed a contract with the Dutch champions until 2024, and will be joining the club’s technical personnel immediately.

The club has confirmed the arrival of Huntelaar in an official statement on their website. They also acknowledged that technical manager Gerry Hamstra had been sharing the responsibility of Overmars’ duties following his departure. He had been working closely with manager Erik Ten Hag, and the pair will now be supported by Huntelaar.

Here is what Huntelaar had to say about his new journey off the pitch: “I have always been interested in things that happen off the pitch at clubs and I would like to broaden my knowledge in this area. That is possible with the trajectory that Ajax are offering me. I am happy to be back and I am curious about what will happen in the coming period.”

“I am also working on my coaching diploma. The knowledge I gain during that course will also help me with what I will be doing at Ajax. I am also particularly looking forward to collaborating with the existing organization to contribute to the topics I think I have a view on, but also in which I want to develop further.”

The former Ajax striker will be taking courses to further his development starting June 2022 as well.
