He started as a hungry, lovable wrecking ball in *The Suicide Squad*, and now he is getting a promotion. DC Studios has confirmed that King Shark will join the main cast of *Creature Commandos* Season 2, according to The Direct, and the news comes with a few surprises.

## Regular Season 2: Overview

| Detail | Info |
| --- | --- |
| Show | *Creature Commandos* Season 2 (HBO Max) |
| New regular | King Shark (Nanaue) |
| Confirmed by | James Gunn, on the *The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon?* podcast |
| Episodes | 10 |
| Showrunner | Dean Lorey (Gunn is not writing this season) |
| Release window | 2027, after *Man of Tomorrow* (in theaters July 9, 2027) |
| Voice recast | Diedrich Bader replaces Sylvester Stallone |

## What Gunn Revealed?

DC Studios released a podcast reflecting on Gunn’s first DC movie. When a fan hoped to see [King Shark](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Shark) return, Gunn confirmed the character will be a regular in Season 2. That upgrades him from a Season 1 cameo to what looks like a starring role across all or most of the 10 episodes.

## The New Task Force M Roster

Before Season 1 ended, DC Studios revealed a refreshed team led by Indira Varma’s The Bride.

| Member | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| The Bride | Leader, voiced by Indira Varma |
| Doctor Phosphorus | Alan Tudyk, returning |
| Weasel / G.I. Robot | Sean Gunn, dual roles |
| Nosferata | New to Season 2 |
| Khalis | New to Season 2 |
| King Shark | New regular, confirmed by Gunn |

## The Recast

Here is the sting: King Shark has been recast. In *The Suicide Squad*, Sylvester Stallone voiced Nanaue, with Steve Agee delivering the character’s towering presence on set. For Season 2, Diedrich Bader, who previously voiced Batman in *Harley Quinn*, steps in for Stallone.

## Is The Suicide Squad Canon?

The podcast was meant to determine how much of the 2021 film counts in the new DCU. Gunn had earlier noted some inconsistencies. His conclusion, per the report, was that the movie is mostly canon, with a possible asterisk over Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn depending on how things proceed.

## How Did King Shark End Up Back in Prison?

The movie ended with King Shark riding off with Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, and Ratcatcher II after they blackmailed Amanda Waller into freeing them. So Season 2 will need to explain how he landed back in Belle Reve. The 2021 film hinted he could be a descendant of an ancient shark god but never revealed why he was in Task Force X. Since Season 1 explored each monster’s origin in flashbacks, Season 2 may finally reveal his history, perhaps with a cameo from rivals like Flash or Aquaman. That last part is The Direct’s speculation, not a confirmed plot.

## Why It Matters?

Bringing back a fan favorite builds continuity between the DCU’s movie and series sides. It also hints at bigger possibilities for Nanaue in live-action later. For now, expect the show to lean into the humor and heart that made the character a breakout.
