A black leather coat, an unshakable gaze, and zero tolerance for mistakes — Kim Ji Won’s new role is already turning heads. SBS has released its first in-depth look at Kim Ji Won’s dramatic transformation for the upcoming medical noir *Doctor X*, and the images alone suggest this isn’t your typical hospital drama.

### What Doctor X Is About?

Based on the hit Japanese series of the same name, *Doctor X* follows Gye Soo Jung — nicknamed “Doctor X” — a genius surgeon who proves her worth through raw skill alone while navigating a corruption-ridden hospital system. Kim Ji Won steps into this role, trading the usual white doctor’s coat for a striking black leather one that instantly signals this character plays by her own rules.

### Who Is Gye Soo Jung?

Gye Soo Jung is a surgeon dispatched by a doctor-for-hire agency, and despite being an outsider, she single-handedly dominates the hierarchy at the corrupt Guseo University Hospital purely through her surgical mastery. The newly released stills capture her sharp gaze and commanding presence, hinting at a character who refuses to allow even a single mistake on the operating table.

### What the Production Team Is Saying

According to the show’s production team, Kim Ji Won fully embodied the role from her very first day of filming — her vocal tone, gaze, and mannerisms reportedly became inseparable from the character herself. The team went as far as saying they can no longer imagine anyone else playing Gye Soo Jung, teasing the arrival of what they’re calling a “medical dark hero.”

### Why This Adaptation Stands Out

*Doctor X* originally became a massive hit in Japan for subverting typical medical drama tropes — focusing less on hospital politics and more on a lone genius who answers to no one. Adapting that same defiant energy for Korean television, especially with an actress known for range and intensity like Kim Ji Won, sets up an intriguing new entry in the *[medical drama](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_drama)* genre.
