## What Makes This Kill Boksoon 2 Spin-Off Special?

Rather than continuing Gil Boksoon’s story directly, “Mantis” explores the chaotic assassin world after the events of the original film. The narrative follows Han-ul (codename: Mantis), an elite killer returning from vacation to find the hired assassin industry in complete disarray following the collapse of the established order.

The plot promises intense action as Mantis reconnects with Jae-yi, his former training partner turned rival, and Dok-go, a legendary retired assassin who’s stepped up as the new CEO of MK Entertainment. All three are vying for the top position in this dangerous new world!

### Star-Studded Cast Bringing Fresh Energy

Park Gyu Young (Sweet Home, Squid Game Season 2) plays Jae-yi, a supremely talented killer who was ousted from MK Entertainment. Her complex feelings toward Mantis add emotional depth to the explosive action sequences.

Yim Si Wan (Run On, Thirty-Nine) takes on the titular role of Mantis, while Jo-woo Jin (Narco-Saints, Mr. Sunshine) portrays Dok-go, the mentor figure with his own agenda. ## Why “Mantis” Instead of Kill Boksoon 2?

The original “Kill Boksoon” garnered 27.5 million views on Netflix, according to [What’s on Netflix](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/k-dramas/kill-bok-soon-spin-off-mantis-in-development-at-netflix-02-2025/). Rather than rehashing the same story, the creators chose to expand the universe, exploring different characters within the same shadowy world of professional assassins.

This approach allows fresh storytelling while maintaining the gritty atmosphere and jaw-dropping action that made the original a global hit. With filming completed in December 2024 and a teaser trailer already released, anticipation is reaching fever pitch!
