Kia Motors is leveraging the increasing trend of SUVs, with its Sonet and Seltos models targeting consistent sales & volumes. In the latest round of changes that Kia has announced for July 2024, the carmaker is again shuffling its variant lineup and feature list for both the Sonet and Seltos to make sure it continues offering an eclectic mix in front of Indian SUV buyers. Here are the latest updates:
The New Kia Sonet and Seltos Variants
Kia recently introduced a mid-spec GTX trim that sits between the HTX+ and top-of-the-range GTX+ variants in terms of price as well as equipment. The availability of the turbo petrol engine from Kia, previously missing in sub-₹10 lakh (Ex-showroom) priced points has now been rectified and it comes across as a significant boon for the Sonet lineup.
While the new HTK 1.0L iMT variant comes with a price tag of ₹9,60,000 (Ex-showroom), it continues to miss out on provision for manual transmission as before. Kia has also updated the HTX trim with a wireless phone charger, rear washer and wiper, and 16-inch alloy wheels (diamond-cut). Rear washer and wiper, ISOFIX mounts are standard in addition to LED headlights on the HTK+, rear demister is limited trim with automatic climate control.
Next were updates to the top-end GTX+ and X-Line trims that included ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera with SATNAV & LED lamps. The updates list cements the addition of Solar Glass on both trims and white brake calipers on all four wheels – a feature that’s unique to GTX+. These enhancements aim to bolster Seltos’ competitiveness in India’s crowded compact SUV segment, where it competes with models like the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, and others.
Speaking about the changes, Mr. Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer at Kia India said that as a customer-centric company and to adopt a strategy of continuous evolution accomplished with these new additions to his product portfolio including newly launched variants in the Seltos family. These product improvements align with Kia’s mission to provide consumers with the latest technology advanced features, and value in today’s market according to him.
Ironically, the GTX trims provide customers with an example of what it’s like to drive a GT line vehicle but showcase some of today’s newest automotive technology. The turbo petrol Sonet under ₹10 lakh and the black-themed X-line variant as other offerings are aimed at offering power of choice to consumers without any compromise on their aspirations by Kia.
