Kevin De Bruyne saves £8 million by negotiating his own contract extension

Kevin De Bruyne recently negotiated a contract extension with Manchester City, with the new contract tying the player down to the Etihad until 2025. The new contract is expected to pay out a sum worth £400,000 per week and the deal was negotiated without an agent from Kevin De Bruyne’s end.

A recent finding shows that by agreeing to the deal on his own, De Bruyne has saved himself £8 million. This is because the contract is worth about £83 million and the agent, if any, would have to be paid 10% of the fees which would amount to the figure that has been saved by De Bruyne.

Patrick De Koster was the former financial advisor for Kevin De Bruyne, but the agent had a falling out with the Belgian due to a legal struggle. The reason behind it being a number of financial discrepancies by De Koster that forced the player to call the cops.

De Bruyne senior employed the services of a team of legal experts from Brussels-based law firm Altius to finalise the small details with City after his son had agreed his own salary package.

Considering Altius charges £500 for an hour of work, De Bruyne will have to pay out £50,000 which is much lesser than what he would have to sacrifice if an agent was in charge instead. All talks between Manchester City and Altius were held via Zoom due to the COVID pandemic hindering operations.
