Kerala Blasters have signed Apostolos Giannou as their new forward, with the player signing a contract until June 2023. Giannou will be the replacement for Alvaro Vazquez, who left the club to join FC Goa earlier this summer.

The Greek-Australian striker will be leading the line for the Blasters this season, and has been officially presented by the club. He joins them from A-League side Macarthur FC and is their first foreign signing of the season.

Commenting on the Blaster’s first foreign signing of the summer, Karolis Skinkys said, “I’m very happy Apostolos finally joined Kerala Blasters. He was our target for the last two years. He is a hardworking attacker who fits our style of play. I also like him because he is a player who plays for the team. I wish him the best time in Kerala!”

“I’m really excited to be signing for Kerala Blasters. I will put my all for the team to achieve the goals it has for this year.” said a happy Apostolos Giannou upon signing with his new club.

The 32-year-old has played for Greek sides Kavala, PAOK, Ethnikos, Panionios, and Asteris Tripoli, scoring 38 goals and providing 15 assists in over 150 appearances.

In 2016, he became the record signing for Guangzhou City FC, before moving back to Europe. The striker has also earned 12 caps for the Australian National team, and is expected to inherit Vazquez’s place in the team.
