Karim Benzema has been leading Real Madrid’s attack for the last few years, and that has continued this year as well. The Frenchman scored both of Los Blancos’ goals in their 2-1 win over Athletic Club Bilbao and now has 299 Real Madrid goals. He also has 20 goals across all competitions this season and we’re only just heading into the new year.
The way things stand right now, he is on his way to a third consecutive season with 30+ goals. This fact alone proves how influential he has been for the Spanish giants over the last three years.
Karim Benzema on the verge of breaking several records
Club legend Alfredo di Stefano has scored 308 goals for Los Merengues in his illustrious career. At 299 career goals for the club right now, Benzema is all set to overtake di Stefano next year.
Even if it doesn’t happen by the end of the season, Benzema will have surpassed Raul Gonzalez’s 323 goal tally in 2022 as well. If he surpasses Raul, he will become Real Madrid’s second-highest goalscorer of all time.
The man holding first place, however, is Cristiano Ronaldo with 451 strikes to his name. His former teammate’s tally will be one that he will struggle to match.
In terms of La Liga goals as well, Benzema is set to surpass di Stefano (216) and Raul (228), with 207 goals so far.
Across his career, Karim Benzema has scored 401 goals, and is only 10 short of Thierry Henry’s 411 career goals. He will become the highest scoring Frenchman across club and international football when he scores 11 more goals to surpass Theirry Henry.
