Manchester United may have to look elsewhere for a midfielder, with Kalvin Phillips set to reject a move to Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag has undoubtedly provided the Manchester United board with a list of potential transfer targets ahead of the club’s busy summer transfer window.

Reject a Move to United

The Dutchman brings his ideas and tactics, which means that new players are an absolute must – especially given how poorly our current squad is performing. Kalvin Phillips is one player who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since his Premier League debut.

However, as we all know, the Leeds United captain is a true Elland Road supporter. That was always a potential stumbling block for me. According to sources, the 26-year-old will reject any move to Manchester United this summer. This is because he “couldn’t bear” betraying his beloved Leeds United.

The England international is ‘acutely aware of the enmity that exists between Manchester United and Leeds United, and he ‘would be opposed’ to a switch to the Reds due to his loyalty to his boyhood club.

Phillips and Others

Eric Cantona, Arthur Graham, Joe Jordan, and Gordon McQueen are the other Leeds players who have joined United. Phillips, who has been at Leeds since the age of 14, has told the club that he wants to stay and sign a new contract. His current contract has two years left on it. However, once he has established himself as an England regular, he will be able to command better terms above £100,000 per week.

Leeds wants to hold Phillips but may opt to sell him if his salary is too high. Despite rejecting two bids of around £55 million from West Ham in the January window, they may now consider bids of around £60 million.

Aston Villa and Newcastle are also keeping an eye on Phillips’ situation. It’s been complicated by the fact that he’s in the process of changing agents, which means that any decision could be delayed until June.
