The Wait is Finally Over For Kalki 2898 AD Trailer!
After numerous posters, teasers, and delays, the makers of “Kalki 2898 AD” have finally released the film’s trailer on Monday. Directed by Nag Ashwin, this post-apocalyptic film is inspired by Hindu scriptures and set in the year 2898 AD. The movie stars Prabhas as Bhairava, an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, with Amitabh Bachchan portraying the immortal Ashwatthama. The cast also includes Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in significant roles.
The 183-second trailer more than compensates for the delays and lack of promotional materials, introducing viewers to the unique world of Bhairava. It begins with children learning about Kaashi, the first city in the new world. As the trailer progresses, it reveals an ongoing power struggle and the consistent oppression of the underprivileged. However, it also heralds the return of a power that has existed for 6,000 years.
Enter Bhairava, who has “never lost a fight to date.” This battle, however, won’t be easy for him, as the trailer concludes with a glimpse of the formidable evil (Kamal Haasan) he must face. “Fret not, a new era is arriving,” the villain declares, setting the stage for the ultimate battle.
Director Nag Ashwin on Religion and “Kalki 2898 AD”
In a recent interview with Deadline, director Nag Ashwin discussed “Kalki 2898 AD’s” approach to religion, especially in today’s polarized climate, and explained why he is not worried about this aspect. Speaking to Deadline, Ashwin mentioned that the film “does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus.” He emphasized that the movie’s narrative should be interpreted subjectively rather than strictly through a religious lens. “Of course, if you tell it in the Indian context there will be a bit of devotion and emotion, but I feel any story can be dealt with subjectively without bringing a religious connotation,” he said.
With an estimated budget of $75 million, “Kalki 2898 AD” is set to be one of India’s most ambitious and expensive productions. The film aims for a global release similar to the success of SS Rajamouli’s “RRR” in 2022. Prabhas, who ended his streak of flops with “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” which grossed over Rs 700 crore worldwide, is looking to continue his comeback with “Kalki 2898 AD” after a series of unsuccessful films.
Deepika Padukone Expected To Play The Mother of ‘Kalki’
Deepika Padukone, who is expecting her first child with actor-husband Ranveer Singh, has often portrayed maternal roles in her films. After her roles in “Brahmastra,” “Bajirao Mastani,” and “Jawan,” she will once again play a mother onscreen in “Kalki 2898 AD.”
The trailer for “Kalki 2898 AD” depicts the city of Kaashi, ruled by a king (played by Saswata Chatterjee), in a dystopian setting. The king has his eye on a pregnant woman, portrayed by Deepika. Some fans speculate that Deepika’s character is the mother of Kalki in the film.
Many also reacted to a post titled, “Brahmastra, Jawan, Bajirao Mastani, Kalki. Deepika Padukone is making her own genre of being the important mother of an important child.”
Amitabh Bachchan Is Great In Every Scene He Is
Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the character of Ashwatthama, tells Deepika Padukone that she is carrying ‘God’ in her womb. Ashwatthama, a complex character from the Mahabharata, was a fierce warrior and ally of Duryodhana. Many on Reddit praised Amitabh’s performance after watching the “Kalki 2898 AD” trailer.
Who Will Be Prabhas’ Love Interest? Disha or Deepika?
Disha Patani plays a significant role in “Kalki 2898 AD” and will appear in an action-packed avatar. In one scene, she is seen kicking someone and then telling Prabhas, “Tumhe sirf khud se pyar hai Bhairava (You only love yourself).” While there has been much speculation about who Prabhas’ love interest in the film might be, some fans are convinced it’s Disha.
According to reports, Disha Patani and Prabhas recently filmed a love song together, which strongly suggests that Disha will indeed be Prabhas’ love interest.
Kamal Haasan’s Terrifying Character
Kamal Haasan, in an almost unrecognizable avatar at the end of the trailer, is impossible to miss. His unique portrayal of Kali, reportedly the main antagonist, has left fans in awe with his voice and the impressive VFX. The veteran actor’s look bears some resemblance to Gollum from “Lord of the Rings.” There is speculation that he will play the role of Kamsudu, and his showdown with Prabhas’ Bhairava promises to be a battle to watch out for.
Who Will Play Kalki If Not Prabhas?
Prabhas does not appear to be playing the titular role of Kalki, but could he be seen in a double role? The trailer depicts the king attempting to capture a pregnant woman (played by Deepika), who is carrying his nemesis. Prabhas, known as Bhairava, is assigned to this task and confidently declares that he never loses a battle. Will Bhairava uphold his promise? We might soon find out.
Originally scheduled for release on May 9, “Kalki 2898 AD” faced delays and will now premiere globally on June 27.
