The film Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, has broken a new box office record. The film made a record-breaking Rs 95 crore on its first day in India, beating Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in both domestic and global earnings. According to Sacnilk.com, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ grossed Rs 64.5 crore in Telugu, Rs 24 crore in Hindi, Rs 4 crore in Tamil, and Rs 2.2 crore in Malayalam.
This remarkable performance cemented its status as a monumental triumph. On its opening day, the film got a total occupancy rate of 85.15 percent in Telugu theatres, suggesting great audience interest.
The film’s success is not exclusive to India. Kalki 2898 AD became the highest-grossing Indian film in North America on its opening day, earning more than $5.15 million, according to Prathyangira Cinemas, an overseas film distributor. This breaks previous marks set by SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ and Prabhas’ ‘Baahubali 2’.

According to Sacnilk.com, Kalki 2898 AD made ₹ 95 crore on its debut day in India across all languages, according to early estimates. The film grossed ₹64.5 crore nett in Telugu, ₹4 crore nett in Tamil, ₹24 crore nett in Hindi, and ₹2.2 crore in Malayalam. The opening day stats have eclipsed the previous record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan last year, which grossed ₹ 65.5 crore on its first day.
The survey also stated that Kalki 2898 AD had an overall Telugu occupancy rate of 85.15 percent on Thursday.
Kalki 2898 AD Plot and Cast
Kalki 2898 AD is set in a dystopian future and follows the narrative of Bhairava, a bounty hunter with hopes of making it big in the Complex, a futuristic city ruled by Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan).
The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama and Deepika Padukone as SU-M80, with appearances by Vijay Devarakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, and Brahmanandam.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’, produced by Vyjayanthi Movies on a gigantic budget of Rs 600 crore, is a blend of science fiction and mythology, dubbed India’s ‘Avengers moment’ by star Rana Daggubati. Santhosh Narayanan wrote the film’s music, while Djordje Stojiljkovic handled the photography and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao did the editing.
