The most exciting part about the Champions League so far has been the Juventus vs Barcelona draw in the group stage. The Italian Champions face the Blaugrana not once, but twice in the group stage of the Champions League.
Fans all across the world are heavily anticipating the clash between two of the biggest superstars of this generation, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, for the first time since the former’s departure to Italy.
However, Ronaldo’s positive coronavirus test cast doubts over whether the match would actually feature the two legends colliding once more.
As per Sport, Juventus are confident that Ronaldo has recovered from the virus and are further claiming that the star forward does not show any symptoms of the virus either. Consequently, the Italian club have submitted the required paperwork to UEFA to ensure that their biggest player is available for selection when they face Barcelona next week.
A response regarding the issue is awaited from the governing body.
The Portuguese forward has been in quarantine since his test returned positive. The stipulated time has now passed and it looks like the only thing keeping the 35-year-old from playing the match is a negative PCR test that ensures that Ronaldo is completely fit and ready to compete.
Ronaldo has been absent from the Juventus squad for the last few games and was also unavailable for the Champions League opener against Dynamo Kiev. Despite the absence of their star forward, the Old Lady managed to win 2-0 away from home.Â
Juventus take on Hellas Verona in Serie A over the weekend and will play host to Barcelona on the 28th of October in the Champions League.Â
Georgio Chiellini is already expected to miss both matches due to an injury that caused him to be replaced 19 minutes into the Kiev match. The absence of another one of their star players could spell trouble for the Serie A champions, especially given the form that Barcelona have shown in the last few games.
