Tottenham Hotspur have identified Julian Nagelsmann as the top candidate to become their next permanent manager. The former Bayern Munich boss is out of a job after being replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
He was in talks with Chelsea a few weeks ago as well, but negotiations broke down between them as they were unable to agree on some key points. Now, a move to the other side of London has emerged as an option for the German tactician.
Julian Nagelsmann linked to Tottenham Hotspur for managerial role
Although initial contact has been made between the pair, Nagelsmann is not prepared to advance to the important phase of negotiations yet. Spurs are without a director of football, following the resignation of Fabio Paratici and the German wants to know who will succeed him before having the talks.
One of the reasons behind it could be his desire to have a say in transfers. Moreover, it would also help him understand the bigger project in place at the club before committing to it.
Paratici resigned after being banned from working in football due to his involvement in Juventus’ false accounting case. He was the sporting director for the Bianconeri during the time period investigated, and will now spend time away from the sport for a year and a half, which was held up in spite of being appealed.
Julian Nagelsmann, on the other hand, remains on the shortlist of Spurs to replace Antonio Conte. Ryan Mason is currently in charge of the first team on a temporary basis after Cristian Stellini was sacked.
