Manchester City have agreed a contract renewal with Julian Alvarez, extending his deal until 2028. The player will formally sign the paperwork in the coming week, since both parties have reached an agreement over the new deal.
The new contract comes with a significant pay rise for the striker, following his performances at the 2022 World Cup. He has not been able to feature as the first-choice number 9 at the club ahead of Erling Haaland, but has been given opportunities from the bench – and has been impressive throughout.
Manchester City to extend Julian Alvarez’s contract with new pay structure
There were rumours that Alvarez would leave City in search of more regular first team opportunities, given that he isn’t starting regularly. But with the new contract, those have been put to bed with the striker committing his future to the Sky Blues.
Since joining from River Plate in the summer, Julian Alvarez has scored 10 goals and provided three assists across 31 appearances in all competitions. He has shown a lot of versatility during this time, being able to play alongside Haaland situationally, behind him, or even out wide as a winger.
His previous contract was set to run until 2027, and the club has added one more year since they believe he is the right striker for the long-term.
