Manchester City have made contact for Julian Alvarez from River Plate. The young striker is starting to attract a lot of interest from Europe and could be on his way to the continent at last.

The Premier League champions have not yet matched his £17 million release clause, but have held initial talks for the player. There is a small chance he could join the Sky Blues in the January transfer window.

Even if he is signed, he would be loaned to one of Manchester City’s sister clubs such as Troyes in Ligue 1 before he enters the fold at the Etihad. He isn’t viewed as the heir to compatriot Sergio Aguero just yet, although he is showing all the right signs.

Julian Alvarez move won’t rule out Harry Kane or Haaland

The Argentina international can play as a striker or a winger. And, his arrival with the group wouldn’t rule out a huge transfer for Harry Kane or Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland in the summer.

Real Madrid have tried to sign him several times but were unable to do so due to his age. If they want to sign him, they will have to compete with City who are stepping up their efforts already. And despite rumours, Manchester United have not yet started talks for the young striker.

Julian Alvarez has been named the South American footballer of the year, after scoring 24 goals and providing 15 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions in the 20/21 season.
