Julian Alvarez is set to join Atletico Madrid from Manchester City, with a deal in place for his transfer. The striker leaves City after spending two years with them, during which he won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the FA Cup.

After his incredible performance with River Plate, City were first to complete a deal for the striker. He joined them in July 2022, but was the alternative to Erling Haaland, who had just joined the club from Borussia Dortmund.

All in all, the 24-year-old ended up making 103 appearances for the Sky Blues, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists. He was frequently played out of position, such as behind the number 9, or out wide. However, he was always professional and up to the challenge, and delivered as well.

Now, he will be joining the Rojiblancos in a deal that could go up to €95 million. After spending only €21 million to sign the player, City have sold him for more than four times what they spent.

Atletico Madrid are also expected to complete the signing of Conor Gallagher from Chelsea in the coming days, with the player already on his way to the Spanish capital for his medical.

Which other striker has Atletico signed this summer?

Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal
