Jude Bellingham has been handed a one-match ban and a fine of €30,000 by UEFA for kissing his hand and grabbing his crotch to celebrate his goal in the Round of 16 game against Slovakia.

The sentence is suspended for one year, meaning the midfielder can serve it any time over the coming year. As a result, he will be available to start against Switzerland in England’s quarter final game at Euro 2024.

The Real Madrid star has insisted that the gesture was not against Slovakian fans, but was instead an inside joke between him and some of his friends who were at the game.

However, Jude Bellingham isn’t the only one that has been fined for their conduct in the game against Slovakia. The English FA has been fined €10,000 for fan disturbances, as well as €1,000 for the fans lighting off fireworks in the stands.

UEFA have also suspended Merih Demiral for two games after the Turkish defender held up the wolf salute to celebrate his goals against Austria. The gesture is similar to that of right-wing extremist group Grey Wolves, which is what caused the trouble.

Turkey’s ambassador to Germany has reportedly been summoned to the foreign ministry in Berlin to address the situation. However, Demiral and Turkey maintain that it was an expression of national pride.
